A compressor gives up at 2pm in April. The house is 34 degrees, the baby will not sleep, and the owner is scrolling a phone map deciding between three names they have never heard of.
Nobody in that moment is comparing brochures. They are looking for whoever answers, whoever states a price, and whoever can come today. That is the whole competition for half your revenue.
This guide applies the IZI Blueprint, the four-phase method we use in consulting engagements, to digital marketing for air-cond servicing companies specifically. It covers where the demand actually sits, which channel earns your first ringgit, what a sensible budget looks like, and the numbers worth reviewing monthly, with four original data briefings underneath. The video below covers the commercial fundamentals of HVAC marketing.

PART 2 · THE MARKET
What Drives Aircond Demand in Malaysia?
IN BRIEFClimate and an ageing installed base create the demand; you only decide who intercepts it. That makes this a local search problem long before it becomes an advertising problem.
Three public facts set the floor under any aircond business here.
- The heat is not seasonal in the usual sense. MetMalaysia describes a climate of uniformly high temperature and humidity all year, with two inter-monsoon periods when winds go light and the afternoons turn hardest. Units run almost continuously.
- Every home is wired and reachable. Access to electricity in living quarters stood at 99.9 per cent nationally in 2024, with internet subscription at 99.6 per cent and smartphone ownership at 98.4 per cent, according to the Department of Statistics Malaysia.
- The gas in those units is being phased out. Malaysia is committed to eliminating HCFCs, including the R-22 that fills much of the older installed base, by 2030 under the Montreal Protocol.
Demand is therefore guaranteed and slowly changing shape. Neither of those things is something a marketing budget creates.
Spending on reach before fixing the reply?
In this trade a quicker WhatsApp response usually beats a bigger budget. See how IZI diagnoses before recommending spend
PART 3 · DIAGNOSE
How Do Malaysians Choose an Aircond Service Company?
IN BRIEFThree routes lead to your phone, and each runs on a different clock. Emergencies close in minutes, planned servicing in days, building contracts over months, on the same slow tendering rhythm that shapes cleaning services chasing recurring work.
Split last month’s enquiries three ways and the channel decision mostly answers itself.
- The breakdown call: minutes. A phone search for “aircond repair near me” or “servis aircond Puchong”, a glance at the map pack, then a WhatsApp message to one or two names. First credible reply usually wins.
- The planned service or install: days. Chemical wash before Raya, a new unit for a renovated room. The customer compares two or three quotes and reads reviews properly.
- The contract: months. Offices, clinics, condominium management. Won on documentation, response guarantees and a technician they already trust.
Advertising reaches the first two. The third needs a credible website, references and patience instead.
PART 4 · DIAGNOSE
Where Aircond Companies Lose Enquiries
IN BRIEFAlmost none of the leakage happens in the advertising. It happens in the hour after a message arrives, and again in the months of silence after the job is signed off, which is where appliance repair businesses lose their repeat work too.
Test each of these against last month’s WhatsApp history rather than your impression of it.
- Messages answered from the top of a ladder. Nobody replies while servicing a ceiling cassette, so the afternoon’s enquiries queue and cool.
- No published price for the standard jobs. Customers assume the worst when a service or chemical wash has no stated starting figure.
- A vague coverage area. If someone in Rawang cannot tell in five seconds whether you travel there, they will not ask.
- Thin or ageing reviews. You are asking for house access and roof access. Six reviews from 2022 do not carry that.
- No service reminder. Units need attention every few months. Without a contact list, the customer you cleaned in March searches again in September and finds someone else.
None of these needs a media budget, and each one raises the return on every ringgit spent later.
PART 5 · DESIGN
Which Channel Deserves Your First Ringgit?
IN BRIEFFor a one or two van operation the first ringgit belongs to the map listing, because it reaches people at the moment the unit fails. Paid search earns second place, and only on installation and repair terms.
Three questions separate the four realistic options: how quickly jobs land, what the channel costs to run at all, and which half of the business it feeds.
DECISION BOX · WHERE THE FIRST RINGGIT GOES
| Option | Speed to completed jobs | Monthly floor | What it grows |
|---|---|---|---|
| Google Business Profile and reviews | Moderate — 3 to 6 weeks | Time, not money | Breakdown calls nearby |
| Google Search Ads on repair and install terms | Fast — days | RM 1,200+ | High-ticket installs and repairs |
| Meta ads to a district radius | Fast — 1 to 2 weeks | RM 800+ | Chemical wash promotions |
| Direct outreach to building managers | Slow — 3 to 6 months | Time plus a credentials page | Maintenance contracts |
Verdict: If the vans have idle days, the profile wins on cost alone. Add search ads only once someone can reply within minutes, and chase contracts only once the schedule can honour a response guarantee.
PART 6 · DESIGN
Setting a Budget From Your Own Numbers
IN BRIEFTwo figures set your ceiling: what a serviced household is worth over three years, and how many new ones the vans can take on. Work both out before committing to any monthly marketing spend.
Budgeting digital marketing for air-cond servicing companies is four lines of arithmetic.
- Margin per visit. Use the real figure after labour, travel and consumables. Say RM 90 on a two-unit service call.
- Visits per household over three years. A retained customer with three units books roughly twice a year, so several hundred ringgit of margin rather than ninety.
- Your acquisition ceiling. Spending up to a quarter of that lifetime margin to win the household is defensible.
- Monthly spend. Multiply the ceiling by the new households the vans can absorb each month. Start at half that figure and prove the channel first.
Installations and contracts rewrite the sum. One condominium maintenance agreement can outweigh a hundred walk-up washes, which justifies effort no breakdown call ever would.
Would that number survive a look at your actual schedule?
In servicing businesses the binding constraint is usually van hours, not ringgit. See how a Blueprint engagement is sequenced
PART 7 · DESIGN
Website, Offer and the Trust Signals That Matter
IN BRIEFYou are asking a stranger for access to their home, their ceiling and their wiring. Your website has about a minute to settle that, so the awkward answers belong near the top rather than buried on a terms page.
The page has one job: produce a call or WhatsApp message from inside your coverage area. Four elements do most of that work.
- Licensing named, not implied. An aircond business trades under a local council (PBT) business licence, and requirements differ by municipality, so state yours alongside your SSM registration rather than leaving it to inference.
- Electrical competency where it applies. Anyone carrying out or supervising electrical installation work must be certified by the Energy Commission as a competent person. If someone on your team holds that certificate, say so plainly.
- Refrigerant handling stated. Refrigerants are controlled under the Environmental Quality (Refrigerant Management) Regulations 2020. Recovering gas properly rather than venting it is both the law and a selling point almost nobody uses.
- Prices and warranty in writing. Publish the starting price for a service and a chemical wash, the callout charge, and the warranty on parts and labour. Silence here loses more jobs than a high price does.
PART 8 · DEPLOY
The First 90 Days, in Sequence
IN BRIEFReply capacity comes first, visibility second, paid media last. Skipping to the paid step buys attention your team cannot yet absorb, which is how maid agencies waste their best enquiries too.
Work the quarter in this order, and resist the temptation to jump to step four.
- Weeks 1 to 2: fix how enquiries are answered. One shared WhatsApp number, an away message carrying your starting prices, and a person who replies within fifteen minutes during working hours.
- Weeks 3 to 4: claim and fill the map listing. Accurate service areas, every job type listed separately, twenty photographs of real work, and the WhatsApp number on the profile.
- Weeks 5 to 6: publish the trust page. Prices, warranty, coverage map, licensing, competency certification and refrigerant handling on one page.
- Weeks 7 to 10: deploy one paid channel. Search ads on repair and installation terms, inside the districts a van can reach within an hour.
- Weeks 11 to 13: measure and decide. Compare completed jobs by channel, then adjust either the budget or the channel. Changing both at once destroys the only evidence you have.
PART 9 · DEPLOY
Local Visibility: Service Areas, Profile and Reviews
IN BRIEFAircond teams travel to the customer, so the listing has to be configured as a service area rather than a shop. Get that wrong and the search fundamentals underneath cannot help you.
Four habits carry this section, and every one of them costs time rather than money.
- Drop the address if nobody visits it. Where customers are not received at your premises, Google’s guidance is to hide the address and list up to twenty service areas instead.
- Draw the map you can actually drive. The same guidance advises keeping the total area within roughly two hours of driving. A padded radius wins jobs that lose money in traffic.
- Split the job list. General service, chemical wash, gas top-up, installation, relocation, repair. Each entry is another phrase the listing can be matched against.
- Collect the review before the ladder goes back in the van. Goodwill peaks the minute cold air returns and has faded by morning.
BENCHMARK BRIEFING 1 OF 4
When Does Aircond Demand Peak in Malaysia?
IN BRIEFMalaysian aircond demand is not flat. It runs to two heat-driven peaks and one long trough, and knowing where they fall decides when to raise promotional spend and when to sell maintenance plans instead.
| Month | Modelled enquiry index | Climate phase | Where to put the effort |
|---|---|---|---|
| January |

Northeast monsoon | Sell annual maintenance plans |
| February |

The trough matters more than the peaks. August is when contracts get signed, because that is when you have time to go and win them.
BENCHMARK BRIEFING 2 OF 4
Which Aircond Jobs Are Worth Advertising For?
IN BRIEFNot every job can carry a paid click. Sort your services by ticket size and by how the customer finds them, and the advertising shortlist becomes obvious — which is exactly what proper enquiry tracking exists to reveal.
| Job type | Relative ticket size | How they find you | Carries a paid click? |
|---|---|---|---|
| Gas top-up | Map pack, existing customer | No — profile only | |
| General service | Map pack, reminders | Only in bundles | |
| Chemical wash | Social promotions, search | Yes, multi-unit only | |
| Fault repair | Urgent phone search | Yes — the core term | |
| New installation | Planned search, referral | Yes — best margin | |
| Maintenance contract | Outreach, credentials page | Rarely — sold, not clicked |
Illustrative model by IZI Digital Marketing, built on published Malaysian aircond service price ranges and local-services click costs — not measured results. Licence.
The bottom two rows carry most of the profit and the least of the search volume. Resolving that tension is the real work in any air conditioning marketing plan.
BENCHMARK BRIEFING 3 OF 4
What Does Each Monthly Budget Tier Realistically Buy?
IN BRIEFUnder about RM 800 a month, paid search on aircond terms produces a learning exercise rather than a full schedule. The ladder sets out what each tier covers before you justify a second paid channel.
| Monthly budget | Relative reach | What it realistically funds | Modelled completed jobs |
|---|---|---|---|
| RM 0 | A worked map listing, fast replies, review requests | 10–24 | |
| RM 800 | Search ads on repair terms in three districts | 22–40 | |
| RM 2,500 | Repair plus installation terms across the Klang Valley | 50–90 | |
| RM 6,000 | Search, social promotions and contract outreach together | 110–180 |

Read the top row before the bottom one. Proximity and speed decide this trade, so an unpaid listing worked properly still keeps a van moving.

BENCHMARK BRIEFING 4 OF 4
How Will the Refrigerant Phase-Out Change Aircond Servicing?
IN BRIEFA national refrigerant transition is running to 2030, and it will quietly separate certified operators from the rest. Building visibility now compounds the same way it does for GP clinics in a market with permanent demand.
| Period | Stage | What it covers | Commercial implication |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2011–2016 | HPMP Stage I | First HCFC reduction commitments | Largely invisible to service firms |
| 2017–2024 | HPMP Stage II | Deeper cuts; new equipment moves off R-22 | Installed base begins splitting in two |
| 2024–2030 | HPMP Stage III | 257.67 ODP tonnes, with an RAC servicing sector plan | Training and certification become a differentiator |
| 2030 | Full phase-out target | 100 per cent HCFC elimination | Replacement demand rises sharply |
| 2030–2040 | Servicing tail | Limited allowance for servicing legacy units | Legacy servicing becomes a niche premium |
Compiled by IZI Digital Marketing from the DOE HCFC Phase-out Management Plan Stage III and UNDP Malaysia. Shading marks future periods. Licence.
Almost nobody in this trade markets on refrigerant competence, which leaves the claim sitting unused. Whoever picks it up first owns it for the rest of the decade.
PART 10 · DRIVE
The Numbers That Tell You It Is Working
IN BRIEFFive figures, read monthly and ruled on quarterly against thresholds agreed in advance. Point the measurement setup at finished work, since enquiry counts make every servicing business look healthier than it is.
- Completed jobs per channel. Not calls, not clicks. The work that reached the schedule and got signed off.
- Median reply time. Enquiry to first human response. Move this and the other four follow.
- Cost per completed job. Channel spend over finished jobs, held against your margin per visit.
- Repeat rate within eighteen months. Below one household in three, your reminder system is the fault, not the advertising.
- Review velocity. New reviews per hundred completed jobs, the nearest thing to an early warning on map visibility.
Write the exit condition down while nobody is under pressure. Two quarters funded to the floor, with cost per completed job still above your margin, means the channel does not suit your coverage area.
FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
1. How much should a Malaysian aircond company spend on digital marketing each month?
Zero, until someone is free to answer within minutes of a message landing. Past that point, RM 800 to RM 2,500 monthly fits a one or two van outfit. The right figure depends on your margin per visit and how many new households the schedule can genuinely take.
2. Do you need a licence to run an aircond servicing business in Malaysia?
You do, though it is issued locally rather than nationally. Which licence applies and what it costs depends on your municipality, so confirm with your own PBT. Electrical installation work additionally requires Energy Commission competency certification, and refrigerant handling falls under Department of Environment rules.
3. Is Google Business Profile or paid advertising better for aircond services?
Start with the profile. It depends a little on your job mix, but breakdown customers choose from map results on a phone, and that placement costs nothing. Paid search earns its place afterwards, aimed at repair and installation searches rather than low-ticket gas top-ups.
4. Should an aircond company publish its service prices online?
Publish a starting figure. How much detail you add depends on how variable your jobs are, but silence on price is the commonest reason a customer never messages at all. State a price per unit and the conditions that change it.
5. How do you win maintenance contracts rather than one-off jobs?
Sell them in the quiet months, not the busy ones. Contracts are won on documentation and response guarantees, so build a credentials page covering licensing, certification, insurance and response times, then approach building managers directly during the monsoon trough.
THE VERDICT
Your Decision Checklist
Digital marketing for air-cond servicing companies rests on four decisions you should now be able to take unaided.
- Your reply standard. Pick a number in minutes and staff to it. Nothing else you buy outperforms being first to answer.
- Which jobs get a paid click. Repairs and installations, whose ticket clears the click cost with margin to spare. Not gas top-ups.
- Where the map stops. An area a van crosses in an hour, published honestly instead of stretched to look bigger.
- Which peak you staff for. April and October decide your year. Roster and budget for them, and use August to sell contracts.
One caveat before any spending. Where the phone already rings more often than the vans can answer, the next hire beats the next campaign. That sequencing runs through local search work planned around real capacity and through the trade coverage in our industries hub.
