In 2024, Malaysia reported 122,423 dengue cases. In 2025, the count through epidemiological week 47 was 49,610, according to the Ministry of Health figures published in the WHO Western Pacific Dengue Situation Update 736. That is a sixty per cent drop in the single loudest reason a Malaysian household calls a pest control company.
Operators felt it unevenly. The ones whose revenue sat in monthly servicing contracts with restaurants, factories and offices had a quiet year. The ones whose revenue sat in one-off fogging and treatment jobs had a frightening one.
This guide applies the IZI Blueprint, the four-phase method we use in consulting engagements, to pest control. It treats digital marketing for pest control companies as a sequence of decisions: which customer you are actually building for, where enquiries leak, which channel earns the first ringgit, and which numbers prove it worked.

PART 2 · THE MARKET
Where Malaysia’s Pest Control Demand Actually Comes From
IN BRIEFTwo demand pools sit side by side: households reacting to a sighting, and premises that must be serviced whether or not anyone saw a pest. The second pool behaves like the recurring work we describe in digital marketing for cleaning services.
Three published facts set the floor under every decision in this guide.
- The commercial pool is countable. Malaysia recorded 1.09 million active establishments in the DOSM Economic Census 2023.
- Food premises cannot skip you. There were 136,453 of them in 2022, per the DOSM census for food and beverage services, and health inspections make treatment a cost of staying open.
- The residential pool moves with the news. Dengue reporting drives call volume, and that volume more than halved between 2024 and 2025.
One pool is stable and slow to win. The other is volatile and fast. Most operators build for the fast one, then wonder why revenue swings.
PART 3 · DIAGNOSE
How Do Malaysians Choose a Pest Control Company?
IN BRIEFHouseholders decide in one sitting, usually from the map pack on a phone. Restaurant and facility buyers decide over weeks, on paperwork. Winning the first depends almost entirely on local SEO; winning the second does not.
The two journeys share a search box and nothing else.
- The householder starts with a sighting. Termite dust on a skirting, rats in the ceiling, mosquitoes after a neighbour’s case. They search that pest by name, plus their area, within the hour.
- They shortlist three names from the map. Ratings, recent photos, whether a price appears anywhere. Under a minute.
- They message rather than call. WhatsApp asking price, availability today, and whether the chemical is safe around children. Reply speed decides it.
- The premises buyer starts with a renewal date or an inspection report. They search by service and area, then check your licence and reporting format before asking for a quotation.
- They compare on documents. Scope, treatment schedule, service records they can show an auditor. Price matters third.
Steps one to three are won on a phone screen. Steps four and five are won on a website that reads like a licensed company.

PART 4 · DIAGNOSE
Where Pest Control Companies Leak Enquiries Before a Quote
IN BRIEFSix leaks account for most lost work in this trade, and five cost nothing but an afternoon to close. This is the cheapest conversion work available to any callout business.
Run this audit on your own company today, from a phone, as a stranger would.
- No price anywhere, not even a range. Prices vary by pest and property size, which is exactly why a from-price beats silence.
- Replies that arrive next morning. Sightings happen at night. By breakfast the job belongs to whoever answered at 11pm.
- One page for every pest. Termites, rodents, mosquitoes and cockroaches are four searches with four different fears. A generic page ranks for none of them.
- The licence is invisible. Your operator licence is the one credential a customer can verify and most competitors never publish.
- No safety answer. Households with children, pets or asthma ask the same question every time. Answer it on the page, not only in chat.
- No servicing offer. Quoting only the one-off treatment trains every customer to disappear until the next infestation.
PART 5 · DESIGN
Which Channel Deserves Your First Ringgit?
IN BRIEFResidential-led operators start with the map listing; contract-led operators start with search ads and a credentials page. The underlying trade-off is set out in local SEO versus Google Ads.
Judge each option on four things: speed to a job, the monthly floor it needs, the buyer it reaches, and how much of your week it eats.
DECISION BOX · FIRST CHANNEL FOR A PEST CONTROL COMPANY
| Option | Speed to first job | Monthly cost floor | Buyer it reaches | Owner time |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Business Profile and reviews | 2–6 weeks | RM 0–500 | Householder, urgent | Low, but daily |
| Google Search Ads by pest | Days | RM 2,500+ | Both, ready to book | Low once set up |
| Meta Ads to a local radius | 1–4 weeks | RM 1,500+ | Householder, not yet looking | Medium, needs creative |
| Premises outreach and tender registration | 3–9 months | Fees plus your time | F&B and facility managers | Very high, not delegable |
Verdict: If households pay your wages this quarter, start with the Business Profile and a review routine — near-free, and it owns the shortlist moment. If contracts do, put the first ringgit into search ads by pest and a credentials page. Run one properly for a full quarter before adding a second.
Which paid platform comes second usually turns on where enquiries land better, chat or form, which we weigh up in WhatsApp ads against lead forms.
PART 6 · DESIGN
Setting a Budget From Contract Value, Not Job Value
IN BRIEFBudget against what a customer is worth over three years, not what the first treatment invoices. That is the same arithmetic behind any defensible marketing budget.
A termite treatment and a restaurant on monthly servicing look similar on a job sheet and behave nothing alike. Work through five numbers, not a percentage rule.
- Average first-job value. Say RM320 for a general residential treatment, RM450 a month for a small food premises on a servicing plan.
- Conversion from job to contract. Count last year honestly. Most operators sit near a third and assume it is higher.
- Average months a contract survives. Twenty-four months on a commercial plan is a realistic starting figure to test against your own records.
- Customer lifetime value. RM450 across twenty-four months is RM10,800. Spend against that, never against RM320.
- Technician capacity. Count the service hours you already pay for and do not bill. That number, not your bank balance, is your true ceiling.

PART 7 · DESIGN
Website, Pricing and the Licence Most Operators Never Show
IN BRIEFPest control is one of the few trades with a real, checkable government licence, and almost nobody puts it on the website. Publishing it is the cheapest trust upgrade available, and it pays across every industry we serve.
Under the Pesticides Act 1974, the Department of Agriculture licensing scheme issues three separate licences that a serious operator should be naming out loud.
- The PCO licence sits with the company. Issued to a registered Malaysian business to carry out pest control work using pesticides. RM400 to issue or renew, valid two years.
- The PAL licence sits with the individual. Held by someone who has passed the board examination and may work with or without supervision. Renewal is RM150.
- The APAL licence is the assistant tier. Also examination-based, but the holder must work under a licensed applicator’s supervision. Renewal is RM75.
- Vector work carries a second layer. Mosquito operations fall under the Destruction of Disease-Bearing Insects Act 1975, administered by the Ministry of Health.
- Publish rates as ranges. A from-price by pest type filters out the buyer who was never going to pay, before they occupy a technician’s morning.
PART 8 · DEPLOY
The First 90 Days of Pest Control Marketing, in Sequence
IN BRIEFTwo weeks to diagnose, two to design, then the free foundations built properly before any paid reach. Six steps, each with a decision point, starting from your position on Google Maps.
How to roll out digital marketing for pest control companies in 90 days
Six steps, in order.
- Weeks 1–2: Diagnose. Run the Part 4 audit, then sort last year’s jobs by pest type, source, value and whether they became contracts.
- Weeks 3–4: Design. Choose households or premises as the primary buyer, pick the first channel from the Decision Box, and set the ceiling from unbilled service hours.
- Weeks 5–6: Build the free foundations. Claim the Business Profile, publish a from-price by pest, add licence details, photograph real treatments.
- Weeks 7–8: Split the site by pest. One page each for termites, rodents, mosquitoes and cockroaches, each answering the safety question and ending in one action.
- Weeks 9–10: Start the review engine. Ask on completion day, every job, while the customer is still relieved.
- Weeks 11–12: Deploy one paid channel and read it. Fund it to its floor, then use the Part 10 numbers to scale, hold or stop.
PART 9 · DEPLOY
Local Visibility: Google Business Profile and Reviews
IN BRIEFFor a trade that travels to the customer, the service area is the product and the profile is the shopfront. Keep it in-house and keep it weekly, for the reasons set out in setting up a Google Business Profile.
Google’s own guidance on improving local ranking names relevance, distance and prominence, and states plainly that no payment improves a map position.
- Set the service area, not just an address. Most operators work from a store nobody visits, and a wrong radius quietly deletes half the market.
- List every pest as a separate service. The listing matches searches phrase by phrase; one “pest control” entry matches almost none of them.
- Post real treatment photos weekly. Uniformed technicians, actual equipment, before and after. Stock imagery reads as false in this trade.
- Ask on completion day. A review requested a week later gets ignored; one requested while the customer watches the problem end gets written.
- Reply to every review inside a day. Complaints most of all, since they are read closely by everyone still deciding.
Running this yourself or handing it over is a real decision, and we set out both sides in managing a Business Profile in-house or hiring it out.
BENCHMARK BRIEFING 1 OF 4
How Many Malaysian Premises Actually Need Pest Control?
IN BRIEFNo agency publishes a Malaysian pest control market size, so we assembled the demand base from official releases instead. Read it as two customer pools, the same way we split digital marketing for plumbers.
| Indicator | Value | Which pool it sizes |
|---|---|---|
| Active establishments, 2022 | 1.09 mil | Commercial — every premises countable |
| Services sector establishments, 2022 | 949,360 | Commercial — 87.1% of all establishments |
| Food and beverage premises, 2022 | 136,453 | Commercial — the segment that cannot skip it |
| Food and beverage gross output, 2022 | RM 99.0 bil | Commercial — capacity to pay |
| Persons engaged in food and beverage, 2022 | 1,079,843 | Commercial — scale of premises serviced |
| Dengue cases reported, 2025 | 49,610 | Residential — the vector-control trigger |
| Labour force, 2025 | 17.09 mil | Residential — households that outsource |
| Mean monthly household expenditure, 2024 | RM 5,566 | Residential — spending headroom |
Aggregated by IZI Digital Marketing from the DOSM Economic Census 2023: All Sectors and Food and Beverage Services Sector releases, the DOSM Labour Force Survey 2025, the DOSM Household Expenditure Survey 2024 and the WHO Dengue Situation Update 736. Licence.
The commercial rows barely move year to year. The dengue row does. That difference explains why two operators of the same size can have completely different years.
BENCHMARK BRIEFING 2 OF 4
Where Are Malaysia’s Contract-Paying Premises Concentrated?
IN BRIEFNearly two in five food premises sit in just three places, and the other three in five are spread thin across everywhere else. That split decides whether local SEO pays for itself in your area or not.
| State or territory | Share of national premises | Premises | Share | Contract-sales read |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Selangor | 24,625 | 18.0% | Deepest, and most contested | |
| Johor | 15,727 | 11.5% | Large and least crowded | |
| W.P. Kuala Lumpur | 13,849 | 10.1% | Dense, short travel time | |
| All other states combined | 82,252 | 60.4% | Thin, so travel time decides margin | |
| Malaysia | 136,453 | 100% | The full servicing base |
Premises counts and state shares from the DOSM Economic Census 2023: Food and Beverage Services Sector. Combined row and contract-sales reads calculated by IZI Digital Marketing. Licence.
Outside the top three, premises sit far enough apart that a wide ad radius buys jobs your van loses money reaching. Set the radius by drive time.
BENCHMARK BRIEFING 3 OF 4
What Does a Monthly Marketing Budget Buy a Pest Control Company?
IN BRIEFCost per enquiry climbs as budgets rise, but recurring revenue climbs faster because higher tiers reach premises buyers. The same reading applies to digital marketing for GP clinics.
| Monthly budget and mix | Projected enquiries | Enquiries | Cost each | Contracts | Added recurring revenue |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| RM 800 — profile, reviews, WhatsApp | 18 | RM 44 | 2 | RM 900 | |
| RM 2,200 — plus local SEO and pest pages | 41 | RM 54 | 5 | RM 2,250 | |
| RM 5,000 — plus Google Search Ads by pest | 78 | RM 64 | 11 | RM 4,950 | |
| RM 11,000 — plus premises outreach and Meta | 128 | RM 86 | 21 | RM 9,450 |
Illustrative model by IZI Digital Marketing, assuming an RM450 monthly servicing contract, a 38 per cent enquiry-to-job rate and a rising premises share at higher tiers. Not measured results. Licence.
Substitute your own contract value and the ladder moves. Read the bottom row against your roster: 21 new contracts is a hiring decision before it is a budget one.
BENCHMARK BRIEFING 4 OF 4
Is Malaysia’s Pest Control Demand Trigger Still Shrinking?
IN BRIEFDengue reporting halved in 2025 and even a modelled recovery leaves it well below 2023. Any plan resting on panic calls is resting on that line, which is the argument for building durable trust signals instead.
| Year | Dengue cases reported | Average cases per week | Vector-demand index | Read for one-off enquiries |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2023 | 123,133 | 2,368 | 100 | Peak trigger year |
| 2024 | 122,423 | 2,354 | 99 | Held at the plateau |
| 2025† | 49,610 | 1,056 | 40 | Trigger collapsed |
| 2027* | 78,400 | 1,508 | 64 | Partial reversion modelled |
| 2029* | 82,300 | 1,583 | 67 | Modelled plateau, below 2023 |
Case counts from Ministry of Health Malaysia figures published in the WHO Dengue Situation Update 736 and Update 714. †2025 counted to epidemiological week 47. *Modelled projection by IZI Digital Marketing at a partial reversion toward the 2023–2024 plateau, not measured results. Even the optimistic modelled line lands a third below 2023. Plan the business on the commercial rows of Briefing 1 and treat vector spikes as upside.

PART 10 · DRIVE
The Numbers That Tell You Pest Control Marketing Is Working
IN BRIEFFive numbers, read the same day each month, settle whether the spend is paying. Watch the contract conversion rate above all, including above the ranking positions you are tracking.
| KPI | Where to read it | Change-of-course trigger |
|---|---|---|
| Jobs booked this month | Job sheet, tagged by source and pest | Flat after two months of spend |
| Job-to-contract conversion | Contracts signed over jobs completed | Below a quarter two months running |
| Cost per signed contract | Total spend divided by contracts | Above the Part 6 ceiling twice running |
| Median first-reply time | WhatsApp Business, by hour of day | Over an hour during working hours |
| Billable share of technician hours | Roster against invoices | Under 65 per cent on weekdays |
The second row is the one owners skip. Rising job counts with a falling contract rate means the advertising is buying emergencies from people who never renew.
FAQ
Common Questions About Digital Marketing for Pest Control Companies
1. How much should a Malaysian pest control company spend on marketing each month?
Most small operators should start between RM800 and RM2,200 a month. It depends on your unbilled technician hours, because contracts you cannot service on schedule cost more than they earn. Count one normal week of paid-but-unbilled hours, then spend up to what filling them is worth.
2. Is Google or Facebook better for a pest control business?
Google first, Facebook second. That turns on the trigger: pest problems are noticed, then searched within the hour, so search and maps meet people already looking. Facebook and Instagram create the interest instead, which is slower and dearer to fund early.
3. What licence does a pest control company in Malaysia need?
You need a pest control operator licence issued to the company, plus applicator licences for the people spraying. It depends on the work: applicators hold a PAL after passing the board examination, assistants hold an APAL and must be supervised, and all are renewed every two years.
4. How do I win recurring commercial pest control contracts online?
Treat the website as a credentials document rather than a brochure. Much rides on what an auditor would accept: licence category and number, chemicals used, treatment schedule, and the service report format you issue. Food premises buyers check those before they read a price.
5. How long before pest control marketing produces steady work?
Expect six to twelve weeks for the free foundations to show. It depends on your starting review count and how crowded your service area is. Search ads move within days, but the gain only holds if prices, licence details and reply speed are sorted first.
THE VERDICT
Your Decision Checklist
You should now be able to make four decisions about digital marketing for pest control companies.
- Which buyer you are building for. Households or premises as the primary, for at least two quarters. Not both.
- Where the first ringgit goes. Business Profile and reviews if households lead; search ads by pest and a credentials page if contracts do.
- What your ceiling is. A number produced by contract value, renewal months and unbilled technician hours, not a package tier.
- What evidence would make you change course. Agreed before you spend, reviewed the same day each month.
One honest caveat: if your technicians are already fully scheduled and contracts renew without chasing, do not hire anyone yet. Spend the quarter raising prices and recruiting.
