Best AI Visibility Tracking Tools Compared

The Short Answer: Buy the cheapest tool that covers the engines your customers actually use. Entry plans run from USD 29 a month for 15 prompts to USD 699 for full platform coverage, and the gap buys engines and prompt volume, not better judgement. Check country and language coverage before you look at price.

AI visibility tracking tools all sell the same promise: find out whether ChatGPT, Gemini or Google’s AI answers mention your brand. The promise is real. What differs between them is far less exciting than the marketing suggests — how many questions they ask on your behalf, which assistants they ask, how often, and in which country.

That matters because the pricing spread is enormous for what is fundamentally the same mechanical job. One tool charges USD 29 a month. Another charges USD 699. Both run prompts against AI assistants and count how often your name comes back. Nobody in a demo will tell you that the expensive one does not think harder — it just asks more questions, in more places, more often.

So this comparison ranks AI visibility tracking tools on the four things that actually change the invoice: entry price, engine coverage, cost per tracked prompt, and total spend over a year. It also raises the one question Malaysian buyers should ask first and almost never do, which is whether the tool can see Malaysia at all. If you want the wider scope of this work, our AI SEO, GEO and AEO page sets it out.

PART 1 · DIAGNOSE

What Does an AI Visibility Tool Actually Do?

IN BRIEFAI visibility tracking tools type a fixed list of questions into AI assistants on a schedule, record whether your brand appears, and count which pages get cited. That is the whole mechanism. Before you price one, settle whether AI SEO is worth paying for yet at your traffic level.

Strip away the dashboards and every product in this category does four jobs:

  • Runs your prompts on a schedule. A prompt is one question, such as “best dental clinic in Petaling Jaya”. Plans are sold by how many you can run.
  • Records the answer. Whether your brand was named, in what position, and with what sentiment.
  • Logs the citations. Which URLs the assistant leaned on, yours or someone else’s.
  • Compares you to named competitors. Usually as a share-of-voice figure across the prompt set.

Notice what is missing. None of them tells you what to write next in any meaningful sense, and none of them can promise a citation. They are measurement instruments, so judge them the way you would judge any instrument: coverage, frequency, accuracy, cost. Vendors that talk mostly about “AI-powered recommendations” are selling you back the same four jobs with an adjective attached.

Bottom Line: You are buying a scheduled question-asking machine. Price it against how many questions you genuinely need asked, not against how impressive the dashboard looks in a demo.

BENCHMARK BRIEFING 1 OF 4

What Do the Main AI Visibility Tools Cost to Start?

IN BRIEFEntry plans cluster at two price points: roughly USD 29–50 for a starter allowance, and roughly USD 99 for a serious one. What USD 99 buys ranges from 25 prompts to 200, depending on the vendor. Apply the same scepticism you would when shortlisting a search agency.

The table below reads the published entry tier of six AI visibility tracking tools on the same measures, so like is compared with like.

Three tools sit at USD 99 and hand you 25, 50 and 200 prompts respectively. That is an eight-fold spread at an identical price, and it is the single most useful line in the table. Prompt allowance is the unit you are buying, so a headline price on its own tells you almost nothing.

Bottom Line: Never compare these tools on monthly price alone. Divide the price by the prompt allowance first, then check the engine list, and the shortlist usually rearranges itself.

PART 2 · DIAGNOSE

The Coverage Question Demos Never Raise

IN BRIEFEntry tiers cover very different sets of assistants, and some charge separately for the ones you probably care about. Profound’s cheapest plan watches ChatGPT only. At IZI Digital Marketing we treat the engine list as the first filter. A cheap tool that cannot see your channel has no price low enough to be worth it.

Two coverage traps recur across this category, and both are easy to miss when someone else is driving the screen.

The first is the add-on engine. Otterly’s entry plan covers ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, Perplexity and Copilot, but Gemini, Google’s AI Mode and Claude are priced separately, from USD 9 to USD 149 a month depending on tier. That is defensible pricing, but it means a USD 29 plan can quietly become a USD 47 plan the moment you add Gemini.

The second is refresh frequency. Ahrefs is explicit that its large AI chatbot index updates once a month, while AI Overviews data refreshes every few days and custom prompts can run as often as daily. Monthly data is fine for tracking a trend and useless for spotting a sudden drop.

Consultant’s Note: Ask one question in every demo: which engines are included at the price you just quoted me, and which are add-ons? In roughly half the meetings the honest answer changes the number on the slide. It is not deception — it is simply how these products are packaged, and nobody volunteers it.
Bottom Line: Engine coverage and refresh frequency decide whether the data can answer your question at all. Settle both before you argue about price.

BENCHMARK BRIEFING 2 OF 4

Which AI Engines Does Each Entry Plan Cover?

IN BRIEFOnly ChatGPT is covered by every entry plan. Copilot and Claude are the most commonly excluded, and Google’s AI Mode is often an add-on rather than a default. Judge a shortlist the way you would judge an AI SEO agency — on what is included, not implied.

The grid below maps seven assistants against the cheapest paid tier of each platform. Shaded cells are included at that price.

Read down the ChatGPT column and every tool qualifies. Read across the Copilot and Claude columns and the field thins sharply. If your buyers sit inside Microsoft 365 all day, that Copilot column just eliminated two of the six.

Bottom Line: Write down the two or three assistants your customers plausibly use, then delete every tool that cannot watch all of them at your budget. The shortlist is usually two names long.

PART 3 · DESIGN

Why Country Coverage Decides This for Malaysian Brands

IN BRIEFSeveral leading tools do not list Malaysia as a supported market, and none of the main platforms lists Bahasa Malaysia as a configuration language. That single constraint filters the shortlist harder than price does, which is why our AI SEO and GEO work starts with coverage, not tooling.

AI assistants answer differently depending on where the question is asked from. A tool that runs your prompts from a United States exit point will show you an American answer set, which is interesting and largely irrelevant if you sell in Klang Valley.

The published positions differ sharply:

  • SE Visible lists seven countries — the US, UK, Canada, France, Germany, the Netherlands and Spain — and five configuration languages. Malaysia is not among them.
  • Otterly advertises 50-plus country support on every tier, including Lite.
  • Peec charges nothing extra for country or language, but the Starter plan is limited to one country and the Pro tier to three.
  • Profound’s self-serve tiers cover one region and one language; multi-market coverage is an Enterprise conversation.
  • Ahrefs asks each prompt from the location its source keyword came from, which ties coverage to its keyword index rather than to a country picker.

There is a second Malaysian wrinkle. Local buyers switch between English and Malay mid-search, and often mix both in one query. No mainstream tool offers Malay as a first-class configuration language yet, so bilingual prompt sets have to be built by hand. Every Malay prompt you add then consumes allowance exactly like an English one, which quietly doubles the tier you need.

Bottom Line: Ask every vendor to confirm Malaysian query location in writing before you subscribe. A tool that cannot ask from Malaysia is measuring somebody else’s market for you.

What Does One Tracked Prompt Cost Per Month?

IN BRIEFBetween USD 0.42 and USD 3.99, a spread of nearly ten times for the same mechanical job. The cheapest per prompt are not the cheapest to start, which is why per-unit cost belongs in every shortlist alongside the SEO work the monitoring is meant to guide.

Dividing each published price by its published prompt allowance produces the only figure that compares these plans fairly.

3.96 25 4
Profound Growth
3.99 100 3

Compiled and calculated by IZI Digital Marketing from published vendor list prices, July 2026. Ahrefs figure assumes daily checks.

The ranking is not a quality ranking, and reading it as one would be a mistake. Semrush bundles its toolkit with site auditing and competitor research the cheap-per-prompt options do not carry, and Profound’s Enterprise tier reaches nine engines. What the column does prove is that “USD 99 a month” describes wildly different quantities of the same thing.

Bottom Line: Work out how many prompts you need first, then find the cheapest plan that covers them on the right engines. Doing it the other way round is how a business ends up paying eight times the going rate to have a question asked it never needed asked.

PART 4 · DESIGN

Which Tool Fits Which Kind of Malaysian Business?

IN BRIEFSingle-location SMEs need 10–20 prompts and can start near USD 29. Multi-branch and multi-service businesses need 100–300 and should buy on cost per prompt. Only brands with real AI-referred revenue need enterprise coverage, and that is a content investment question more than a tooling one.

Prompt volume scales with the number of services multiplied by the number of locations multiplied by the number of languages. A single clinic in Bangsar offering four treatments in two languages needs roughly eight to sixteen prompts. A franchise with nine outlets needs an order of magnitude more, and that arithmetic — not the brand on the dashboard — should choose the tier.

DECISION BOX · WHICH MONITORING TIER TO BUY

Option Fits when Monthly cost Main risk
Free stack only Under 10,000 sessions Nil No competitor benchmark
Entry tool One location, 10–20 prompts USD 29–50 Add-on engines inflate it
Volume tool Multi-branch, 100–450 prompts USD 99–189 Country list excludes you
Enterprise platform Measurable AI-referred revenue USD 399–699+ Paying for unused engines

Verdict: Choose the free stack if you cannot yet name ten prompts your customers genuinely ask. Choose a volume tool the moment you have more than two locations or two languages to watch, and treat the enterprise tier as a purchase you make after the revenue exists, not before.

BENCHMARK BRIEFING 4 OF 4

What Does a Year of Monitoring Actually Cost?

IN BRIEFBetween nothing and USD 8,388 over twelve months, on list prices alone. Treat the free stack as a real option, because it answers the same opening question the paid tools do. Our comparison of AI SEO against traditional SEO makes the same point about scope.

Cumulative spend is the number that decides renewals, so the table below tracks it month by month rather than showing a monthly rate.

8,388

Illustrative model by IZI Digital Marketing on published list prices, July 2026. Excludes exchange-rate movement and staff time.

These are US dollar prices, so a Malaysian buyer carries currency risk on every one of them. Check the Bank Negara Malaysia reference rate when you budget, and again at renewal — a twelve-month commitment locks the dollar figure, not the ringgit one.

Bottom Line: The gap between the free stack and the top row is a small marketing salary. Spend it only when the monitoring is changing decisions you would otherwise get wrong.

PART 5 · DEPLOY

A 30-Day Trial That Settles the Choice

IN BRIEFBuild the free baseline first, write your prompt list by hand, then trial one paid tool against it for a month. Most businesses discover they need fewer prompts than the sales conversation implied — the same pattern we see when reviewing GEO proposals in KL.

Run these five steps before any subscription renews for a second month.

How to trial an AI visibility tracking tool in 30 days

The goal is a single decision: whether the paid tool told you anything the free stack did not.

  1. Turn on the free baseline. Build a custom channel group in Google Analytics for chatgpt.com, gemini.google.com, perplexity.ai, copilot.microsoft.com and claude.ai, and open the generative AI performance reports in Search Console.
  2. Write the prompt list by hand. List every service crossed with every location and both languages. That count, not the vendor’s suggestion, is your true allowance.
  3. Confirm Malaysian query location in writing. Email the vendor and ask which country each prompt is asked from, and whether Malay prompts are supported.
  4. Trial one tool, not three. Load the same prompt list, run it for a full month, and note every occasion the data changed something you did.
  5. Compare at day 30. Put the tool’s findings beside the free baseline. If the paid data changed no decision, cancel and re-test in six months.
Consultant’s Note: Step two is the one people skip, and it is the one that saves money. Vendors size your plan from your industry, not from your service list, and the suggested figure is almost always generous. Counting it yourself has moved several of our clients down a tier without losing a single answer they cared about.

THE VERDICT

Buy the Cheapest Tool That Answers Your Question

There is no best tool in this category, only a best fit for a prompt count, an engine list and a country. On the evidence above, four of the AI visibility tracking tools compared here win at something specific. SE Visible offers the lowest cost per prompt at volume. Otterly gives the lowest sensible entry point with wide country coverage. Ahrefs Brand Radar has the broadest platform reach for teams already paying for the suite. Profound holds the deepest enterprise coverage, once nine engines and several markets genuinely matter.

Malaysia’s business population is overwhelmingly small: the Department of Statistics Malaysia counted 1,069,831 MSME establishments in the Economic Census 2023, with 87.6% of them in services. For the overwhelming majority of those businesses, fifteen well-chosen prompts and a free analytics baseline will answer the question that a USD 699 platform answers more elaborately.

Three signals say it is time to move up a tier:

  • Your prompt list exceeds your allowance. When real questions get cut to fit the plan, the plan is too small.
  • Competitors appear where you do not. Share-of-voice comparison is worth paying for once you know who to compare against.
  • AI referrals show up in your enquiry form. Once the channel converts, measuring it properly stops being optional.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

1. What is the cheapest AI visibility tracking tool worth using?

Otterly’s Lite plan at USD 29 a month is the lowest entry point that still covers four assistants and 50-plus countries. It depends on which engines you need, because Gemini, Google AI Mode and Claude are priced as add-ons on that tier and can roughly double the bill.

2. Do these tools work for Malaysian businesses?

Some do and some do not, and the vendor page rarely says so plainly. It depends on the country list — SE Visible publishes seven supported markets and Malaysia is not one of them, while Otterly advertises more than fifty. Ask for written confirmation of Malaysian query location before subscribing.

3. How many prompts should a small business track?

Usually ten to twenty. It depends on your service list multiplied by locations multiplied by languages, so a single-outlet business with four services in English and Malay lands near sixteen. Anything beyond that is generally the vendor sizing you by industry rather than by need.

4. Can I track AI visibility without paying for a tool?

Yes, for the first question at least. It depends on what you need to know. Google Analytics plus Search Console’s generative AI reports show your AI-referred traffic and impressions for free. Neither benchmarks you against named competitors, and that is the job paid AI visibility tracking tools do properly.

5. Is a more expensive AI visibility tool more accurate?

Not inherently. It depends on coverage and frequency rather than price — a costlier plan typically buys more prompts, more engines and fresher data, not better analysis. Two tools running the same prompt against the same assistant on the same day should broadly agree.
